FAQ
How Chonk works.
Short answers about buying, selling and staying safe on Chonk.
What is Chonk?
Chonk is a UK marketplace and directory for plant people. Browse or post adverts for plants, growing kit, services and wanted items; find shops, events, creators and guides. Chonk connects people, while buyers and sellers arrange payment and handover directly.
Does Chonk handle payments?
Direct arrangements remain available and free. If an advert offers “Buy through Chonk”, you can choose Stripe checkout with a 10% service charge on the item price and delayed seller payment release. Checkout is available only when the advert offers it. If it is unavailable, make direct arrangements. See the purchase terms.
Is Chonk free?
Browsing, listing and making direct arrangements are free. Optional Chonk checkout adds a 10% buyer service charge on the item price, excluding postage. The full total appears before payment.
How do I list several items?
Use Quick List to create up to 40 goods adverts in one session. Add shared postage, collection and seller details once, then add at least one current photo for every advert.
What can I list?
Indoor and outdoor plants, cuttings, seeds, pots, safe equipment, unused growing media and other lawful plant or garden goods. Read the Listing Rules before posting.
Can I advertise a service?
Yes. Choose Services, then the closest heading or “Other plant-related service”. Describe what you provide, your service area, availability, charging method and relevant qualifications or insurance. Customers contact you directly.
Can I post a wanted or help advert?
Yes. You can seek a plant, equipment, a service, plant-sector work or advice. Give the area, timing and any budget or pay so the right person can respond.
Can I advertise importing, brokerage or tissue-culture help?
Yes, if the service is lawful. Advertisers and customers remain responsible for customs, plant-health, plant-passport, CITES and other required documents. Chonk does not guarantee clearance.
Can I list a plant that needs care?
Yes, if the plant may legally be sold and its condition is shown clearly. Use “Needs TLC” and describe damage, root problems and recent treatment. Do not list active infestations, suspected contagious disease or regulated pests.
How do auctions work?
The seller sets the close time, starting bid, increment and any reserve shown. Chonk records bids, but a winning bid is not payment and does not guarantee completion. The seller and highest valid bidder confirm the final transaction directly. If the completed auction separately offers optional Chonk checkout, only the authenticated winner can use it and the purchase terms apply; otherwise they arrange payment and handover directly.
What do views, saves and enquiries mean?
Views count advert opens. Saves show how many members saved the advert. Enquiries show how many people started a conversation. They do not guarantee a sale.
How will I know about an enquiry?
New messages always appear in Seller Desk. When email delivery is active and message alerts are on, Chonk also emails you. Email can be delayed or filtered, so always check Seller Desk for the latest messages.
What appears on a seller profile?
The display name, profile picture, bio, general location, social links and active adverts may be public. Email addresses, sign-in details and private messages are not public.
What does APHA listed mean?
The APHA filter in Shops & sellers uses official public data for authorised distance plant sellers who chose to appear there. It records inclusion on that voluntary list and is not an endorsement. Chonk does not independently verify member declarations.
How do I list myself as a seller?
Sign in and open List yourself as a seller. You must say whether you sell as a hobby or professionally, whether you are registered as a professional operator, whether you are authorised to issue plant passports and whether you offer distance sales.
How do I stay safe?
Keep early conversations in Chonk. Check the item and seller. Use a payment method that offers protection appropriate to the risk and check its current terms. Never share passwords or verification codes, and be wary of urgent payment requests and external links.
Are business sellers allowed?
Yes, but they must identify themselves accurately and follow consumer, plant-health, tax and product-safety law. A business must not pretend a sale is private.
How do I report something?
Use the report control on an advert or submit the complaints form. Do not send copies of illegal sexual material. Send only the URL and safe context.
Can I appeal a decision?
Yes. Use the appeal form, include the case reference and explain why the decision should change.
