LISTING RULES
Healthy honesty beats perfect leaves.
Show the actual item, say what is wrong and keep unsafe material off the noticeboard.
Every advert must
- Use a factual title and the correct goods, services or wanted heading. Plant titles should contain the plant name or cultivar only; words such as “beautiful”, “rare”, condition, size and sales claims belong in the description.
- Use current photos for goods. Photos and logos are optional for services and requests.
- State the price, starting price or budget where known, plus important extra charges.
- Describe the item, service or request accurately and disclose material limitations.
- Make clear when a photo is representative rather than the exact item.
- Be updated or closed promptly when no longer available or required.
“Needs TLC”
This label may be used for lawful items with cosmetic damage, transport stress, root problems, historic treatment or another clearly described care issue.
Do not list a plant with an active infestation, suspected contagious or quarantine disease, a regulated pest, or a condition whose sale or movement risks spreading harm.
Do not list
- Used or previously planted substrate, contaminated pots, tools or kit.
- Stolen, counterfeit or unlawfully obtained items.
- Prohibited invasive species or protected, wild-collected or CITES-controlled plants without every required permit and record.
- Any plant or seed that may not lawfully be sold, advertised, moved or imported.
- Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or other regulated plant-protection products.
- Recalled, unsafe or dangerously modified electrical equipment, exposed wiring or undisclosed electrical faults.
- Illegal drugs, controlled substances, weapons or related items.
- Misleading rarity, provenance, cultivar or genetic claims.
- Spam, duplicate adverts, bait pricing or unavailable items.
- Personal information, passwords, card details or verification codes.
- Illegal, hateful, threatening, sexually exploitative, fraudulent or rights-infringing content.
Business and distance sellers
Anyone selling regularly for profit may have duties as a trader or professional operator. Sellers are responsible for plant passports, authorised distance selling, consumer disclosures, product safety, tax and any other legal requirements.
A member who joins the Chonk seller directory must accurately state whether they are a hobby or professional seller, whether they are registered as a professional operator, whether they are authorised to issue plant passports and whether they offer distance sales. Registration and passport authorisation are separate. Update or withdraw the declaration promptly if it changes.
Services
Service adverts must explain what is included, the area covered, availability, prices or charging method, travel charges and important exclusions. Only claim qualifications, insurance, licences and experience that you genuinely hold.
Import, export, brokerage and tissue-culture services must not promise guaranteed clearance or bypass customs, phytosanitary, plant-passport, CITES or other legal controls. The advertiser and customer remain responsible for the required checks and documents.
Wanted, help and work adverts
Requests must be genuinely plant related. State what is wanted, the area, timing and any budget or pay. Job and work adverts must be lawful, non-discriminatory and clear about whether the advertiser seeks work or offers it. Do not request prohibited plants, unlawful imports or work intended to evade regulation.
Auctions
State the close time, starting price, reserve if used, postage and collection terms. Do not shill bid, coordinate false bids, change material terms after bidding or gather contact details without intending to sell.
Enforcement
Chonk may correct a category, pause or remove an advert, request evidence, restrict an account or suspend repeated or serious offenders. Affected members may use the complaints and appeals process.
