Choose a houseplant fertiliser

Feed active growth when the pot can no longer provide enough nutrients. Fertiliser cannot repair the wrong care conditions.

Feed growth, not the calendar.

Check care and growth first, compare each product’s job without ranking brands, then follow the current pack label.

01Check the need

Scene 1

Care first, feed second

Feed active growth or a confirmed deficiency; fertiliser cannot correct poor light, damaged roots, overwatering or pests.[1][2]

  • Check active growth
  • Check light and roots
  • Check water and pests
02Compare the job

Scene 2

Compare jobs, not rankings

Five current manufacturer-listed products form an unranked snapshot: compare concentrate or ready-to-use format, labelled plant groups and growing media.[1][3][4][5][6][8][9]

  • Current, not proven best
  • Concentrate or ready-to-use
  • Match plant and medium

Scene 3

Growth sets the schedule

Feed active growth, avoid bone-dry compost, measure the stated dose, and reduce winter frequency unless growth and the label support more.[1][2][3]

01

Why feed

A container holds a limited nutrient supply. Fertiliser can support active growth or address a confirmed deficiency, but it cannot correct poor light, damaged roots, overwatering or pests.[1][2]

02

Compare the product, not the retailer

Chonk did not find an audited public UK sales table for houseplant fertilisers. These five current manufacturer-listed products show different formats and labelled uses:[1][3][4][5][6][8][9]

  • General concentrate: Baby Bio Houseplant Food, Westland Houseplant Feed or Growth Technology Houseplant Focus.
  • Ready-to-use convenience: Miracle-Gro Pump & Feed All Purpose.
  • Several growing media: Liquid Gold Leaf Indoor is labelled for compost, coir, bark mixes and hydroponics.
  • Orchids, cacti, succulents or acid-loving plants: choose a product whose current label names that plant group.

03

Feed growth, not the calendar

Feed mainly during active growth. Avoid feeding bone-dry compost, and follow each product’s label for the exact order, dose and frequency. Reduce winter frequency unless continued growth and the label support more.[1][2][3]
